![]() I broke my thumb years ago - actually, an avulsion fx where I had a thumb spica splint for a few days and then ortho casted me. Hooray! A cast was placed around your leg to prevent movement of the joints and muscles to allow the fractured bone and/or injured tissues to heal in a good position. Now that you have had your cast removed it is very important that you use your wrist as normally as possible. ![]() Your bone has just lost the support of your external frame, and now it is vulnerable. Symptoms can last up to twice the amount of immobilization time. Ice helps prevent tissue damage and decreases swelling and pain. ![]() I still worked my scheduled shifts, even with my cast on (non-dominant hand). I am a 35 year old female, 150 lb, 5’6”, and had a ganglion cyst in the inside of my right wrist for years. Ankle flexibility was measured in 150 people with plantarflexion contracture who had been referred for outpatient physical therapy following cast immobilization for ankle fracture. During a cystectomy, the doctor will mark and numb the area around the cyst.
